If you’re looking for a special spot in the heart of Atlanta, Piedmont Park probably comes to mind. It is Atlanta’s version of NYC’s Central Park, after all!?

With me pretending to be a stranger, this Piedmont Park engagement was a successful surprise! Keep reading to get a taste of one option to celebrate your love.

Our initial contact…planning a Piedmont Park Engagement

Italia reached out with the seed of an idea already in mind! He knew they would have a more traditional, formal wedding, so he wanted a way to honor their playful sides, too.

He was looking for a photographer who specialized in candid portraits. Thankfully, I was the right one for the job!

He wanted to capture their surprise proposal in Piedmont Park and wanted fun, casual, non-traditional engagement photos.

Together, we were going to make a wonderful surprise and photoshoot that would feel really good for him and his “shy” bride-to-be.

He was so happy to have found me, and I was so happy to help him make some amazing memories!

We hatched all our plans over a quick zoom call.

Let me set the stage for this Piedmont Park engagement…

The evening was beautiful.

The location was beautiful.

And the bride-to-be was beautiful, and, completely unaware?.

My daughter and I arrived first. We got everything set up before they arrived, making sure we were ready to not draw any attention to us from Grace.

Soon, I recognized Italia from the zoom call we had. He was in the outfit he’d said he would be wearing, so it was easy to spot him.

Italia walked Grace out to “the spot” he had picked- the edge of the pier, away from the crowds.

My daughter was the decoy near them on the end of the pier, smiling and posing as I “snapped” images to shield me and my long, paparazzi lens from suspicion.?

The plans were in motion for this surprise Piedmont Park engagement!

The Piedmont Park engagement…

Italia wrote and sang Grace a sweet little song about their relationship. He sang before he dropped to his knee to pop the question. It was such an honor to see Grace’s sweet, happy smile at the song and then turned instantaneously into excited disbelief.

The plan was executed–she said “YES!”

They shared in the tender moments of her answer.

After, Italia finally shared the second part of the secret — he turned to me, I stood up, and we waved. She was so surprised! Melting into giggles, we introduced ourselves. (How sweet is her reaction to seeing me?!)

The Pietmond Park proposal turns to casual portraits…

With the main event successfully completed, next up was a casual stroll around a small, beautiful corner of Piedmont park. I captured some fun, lighthearted portraits to celebrate their brand-new engagement. And we explored and enjoyed the beautiful evening.

We ended the wonderful evening with a perfect cap- final images overlooking the striking Atlanta skyline!

Would Piedmont Park make a good elopement location?

Of course! If Piedmont Park is where your heart is calling for, then it is possible! There will be some hurdles to overcome (because it is a popular public park) but I’ve got some tips. Send me a message and we can chat it out.

Kate, do you offer engagement shoots still?

Yes! I love helping tell people’s stories – from engagement, to elopement and even to pregnancy and kiddos (if that’s in the cards for you).

Hi! I’m Kate,

With my whole soul, I believe that you and your partner should marry in a way that feels like you.   SO... Four years ago, I completely reworked my photography business to honor that vision.  To create a safe space for couples to create a wedding experience that feels right.

I changed course so that you can too.

Freeing couples to get married exactly how they want to, with no limits on what that looks like.   Is that bold?!?  Maybe, but you're ready!
